Vocabulary and phrases

Hi!

Welcome to the computer session for cafe skills class.

Later, we will all write a resume and cover letter to apply for a cafe job.

Today, we will practice our cafe skills vocabulary and phrases. It's really important you study the below expressions at home and in cafes before the major open cafe in week 4. We want to impress the other students with our great coffee making skills, but more importantly in an English college, our great ENGLISH usage and communication skills.

For homework tonight, please memorise the required cafe vocabulary...

How do we order?

Practice these phrases:

  14. Are many people have a break in cafe?

Yes - you must have a break every 5 hours legally in Australia. Is that what you mean?

How much espresso put in a VIENNA?

    One shot, then cream

    what does mens "spirits"?

Alcohol, like brandy, vodka.. things that you can drink in a shot glass, for example - they usually have a high alcohol content, like 25-50 %, or 100proof.

Duan, is it true that for work whith alcohol drinks i need a certificate ?

Yes - you need an RSA (Responsible serving of alcohol certificate), which is available for between $60-100 at places like:

    http://www.greenwichcollege.com.au/rsa.php

1.Do you think is possibility find a job if i dont kwow a good english?(I have a pre-intermedium)

It's difficult, but if you can understand and respond with cafe-phrases and vocabulary enough to impress the interviewer AND be great at making coffees well..... then it's possible. Try applying at places like Pie Face:

    http://www.pieface.com.au/

    2. Do you know the webside where i can see sites to find a job?

The best site is on seek:

Try searching sydney - inner city - cafe jobs in hospitality /caual: or search for "cafe" there

    http://www.seek.com.au/

    eg http://www.seek.com.au/jobsearch/index.ascx?DateRange=31&catlocation=1000&stateselected=true&catarea=2819&catworktype=245&catindustry=1212&catoccupation=1549&catarea=2836&catarea=2835&searchfrom=quick

    3. what your recomendation for find a job?

A great resume, cover letter, walking around the city giving them out, applying for jobs on seek.com every day, asking friends about jobs, training in an RSA, improving your english and especially polite cafe language and usage.
